A businessman born in the Netherlands and naturalized in the UK. He is famous for being the founder of the Royal Dutch Shell Group, a multinational corporation that spans both the UK and the Netherlands, which has a similar background to his own. He joined a Dutch trading company and moved to Royal Dutch Petroleum after learning about the oil industry there as a representative in Southeast Asia. He became president in 1900, and in order to compete with Standard Oil, which was trying to dominate the world market at the time, he conspired with Marcus Samuel, president of the British oil company Shell Transport, who was in a similar position to Standard Oil, and the Rothschild family, and founded and managed the Asiatic Oil Company in 1903 and the aforementioned multinational corporation four years later. He then expanded into various regions in an attempt to expand his market, but he became anti-Soviet in revenge for his oil field facilities being confiscated, and is known to have become a supporter of the Nazis as they rose to power. He was knighted in 1902. [Kesaji Kobayashi] [References] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
