〘 noun 〙 A joint used on materials that are visible on three sides, such as the edge of a ceiling pole or the joint of a shamisen neck . One half of the joint is angled from the bottom end, and the other half is angled from the top end downwards, creating a staggered shape like a hawk's beak. It is also used on pile heads to prevent weight from being placed on them.
