A group of volcanic islands located 40 to 60 km south of the Satsuma Peninsula in southern Kagoshima Prefecture. From the east, the three islands of Takeshima, Iwo Jima, and Kuroshima form the village of Mishima. The word "Kuchino" means that they are close to the main island of Kyushu.
