Emperor of Ethiopia. Reigned 1855-68. Also known as Theodore. Before ascending to the throne, his name was Kassa, and he was from a powerful family in the north, but after his father's death, he ran wild in northwestern Ethiopia as a bandit nobleman. In 1852, he conquered the northern region, and by 1855, he had defeated most of his main rivals in central Ethiopia. He was given the title of Emperor of Ethiopia by the Archbishop of the Ethiopian Church, and in order to complete the task of reuniting Ethiopia, he also subjugated the Galla people and the Shoa Kingdom, a powerful force in the central region, and accomplished the task in a short period of time.

エチオピアの皇帝。在位1855‐68年。テオドレTheodoreともいう。即位前の名をカッサといい，北部の有力な一族の出身であったが，父の死後はエチオピア北西部で山賊貴族として暴れまわっていた。1852年に北部州を制圧し，55年までに中部エチオピアの主たるライバルのほとんどを打ち破り，エチオピア教会大主教によりエチオピア皇帝の称号を与えられ，エチオピア再統一の事業を完成させるべく，ガラ族や中部の大勢力であったショア王国をも従え，短期間に再統一事業を成就した。
