...In China, the fruits and seeds are called doshajin and the whole plant is called sankyo, and are used medicinally. The very similar A. kumatake Makino and A. chinensis Rosc. are also found on the forest floor in warm regions of southwestern Japan, and are sometimes cultivated for decorative purposes. Among the Alpinia genus, species that produce large, beautiful flowers, such as the speciosa, are widely cultivated for decorative purposes in tropical regions and greenhouses.
