Tirich Mir (mountain)

Japanese: ティリチ･ミール[山]（英語表記）Tirich Mir

It is the highest peak in the Hindu Kush mountain range, located in the northern part of Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan. The summit is on a spur ridge that branches off from the range to the south, and consists of two peaks, the main peak at 7,708 (7,706, 7,700) m and the eastern peak at 7,699 m. It stands as an independent peak on the west bank of the Chitral River, the upper reaches of the Kunar River, which flows into the Kabul River, and at the southern foot of the mountain, the Chitral River makes a sharp turn south. The name of the mountain means "cross-cutting mountain," and from the town of Chitral, the mountain stands as if it is crossing the valley from east to west, embracing the Balm Glacier.

パキスタン北端部，アフガニスタンとの国境近くにあるヒンドゥークシュ山脈の最高峰。山頂は同山脈から南に派出する支尾根上にあり，主峰7708(7706,7700)mと東峰7699mの双耳峰からなる。カーブル川に流れ込むクナール川の上流チトラール川の西岸部に，独立峰としてそびえ，同山の南麓でチトラール川は大きく南に方向を転ずる。山名は〈横に切る山〉を意味し，チトラールの町から見ると，山はバルム氷河を抱いて谷を東西に横断するように立ちはだかる。
