American folk rock singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player. Born in Duluth, Minnesota. Real name Robert Allen Zimmerman. Formed a band in high school to play rhythm and blues and rock and roll. Enrolled at the University of Minnesota in 1959, but was influenced by folk singer Woody Guthrie and began singing folk songs at local coffee houses, dropping out. Named Bob Dylan after British poet Dylan Thomas. Started living in New York in December 1960, and after being recognized by the famous producer John Hammond (1910-1987), signed with Columbia Records in 1961 and released his first album, Bob Dylan, in 1962. His next album, Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963), contained the anti-war song " Blowin' in the Wind," which was released by Peter, Paul and Mary and became a major hit in 1963, making him a central figure in the protest song and modern folk movements.

He then incorporated rock sensibilities and sounds into his songs such as " Like a Rolling Stone" (1965), which led to the creation of folk rock, and expanded the scope of his expression and activities. In July 1966, he was involved in a motorcycle accident, which led to a hiatus from his activities until the end of 1967. In 1973, he wrote " Knockin' on Heaven's Door " for the movie "Billy the Kid" and starred in the film himself. In 1979, he won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male, for his hit song " Gotta Serve Somebody ". From that year to 1981, he released three albums of Christian songs. In 1991, he won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. His song " Things Have Changed " (2000), which he wrote for the movie "Wonder Boys," won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. A brilliant poet who preached a change in consciousness and values for a new era, he, along with the Beatles, greatly changed the course of popular music around the world.

Subsequent developments

She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 for "creating new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition," making her the first singer to receive the award.

アメリカのフォーク・ロック歌手、ソングライター、ギター、ハーモニカ奏者。ミネソタ州ダルース生まれ。本名ロバート・アレン・ジマーマンRobert Allen Zimmerman。高校時代にバンドを結成してリズム・アンド・ブルースやロックン・ロールを演奏する。1959年ミネソタ大学に入学したが、フォーク歌手ウディ・ガスリーの影響を受けて、フォーク・ソングを町のコーヒーハウスで歌うようになり大学を中退。イギリスの詩人ディラン・トマスにちなんでボブ・ディランを名のる。1960年12月からニューヨークで生活を始め、名プロデューサーのジョン・ハモンドJohn Hammond（1910―1987）に認められて1961年にコロンビア・レコードと契約、1962年初アルバム『ボブ・ディラン』を発表する。次作アルバム『フリーホイーリン・ボブ・ディラン』Freewheelin' Bob Dylan（1963）に収録された反戦歌『風に吹かれて』Blowin' in the Windが、ピーター・ポール・アンド・マリーのレコードで1963年に大ヒットし、プロテスト・ソング、モダン・フォーク運動の中心人物となった。

　その後、ロックの感覚とサウンドを取り入れた『ライク・ア・ローリング・ストーン』Like a Rolling Stone（1965）などでフォーク・ロックを創始、表現と活動の幅を広げた。1966年7月バイク事故のため1967年末まで活動休止。1973年に映画『ビリー・ザ・キッド』のために『天国への扉』Knockin' on Heaven's Doorを書き、自身も映画に出演した。1979年にはヒット『ガッタ・サーブ・サムバディ』Gotta Serve Somebodyでグラミー賞最優秀ロック男性歌唱賞を受賞。同年から1981年にかけてキリスト教を歌ったアルバム3枚を発表。1991年グラミー賞特別功労賞を受賞。映画『ワンダー・ボーイズ』のために書いた『シングス・ハブ・チェンジド』Things Have Changed（2000）ではアカデミー主題歌賞を受賞している。優れた詩人であり、新しい時代の意識改革と価値観を説いた彼は、ビートルズとともに世界のポピュラー音楽の流れを大きく変えた。

「偉大なアメリカ歌謡の伝統のなかで新たな詩的表現を創造した」と評価され、2016年のノーベル文学賞が授与された。歌手が同賞を受賞するのは初めてである。
