Tillandsia (English spelling)

Japanese: ティランドシア（英語表記）Tillandsia

It is an evergreen perennial plant of the Bromeliaceae family, with over 400 species distributed in the subtropics and tropical regions of the southern United States and Central and South America. It grows not only in hot and humid regions, but also in mountainous and dry regions with low temperatures, and its life forms vary from terrestrial to epiphytic. Recently, many species have been introduced to Japan, and although they are promising as green interior decorations for walls, they are not yet widely used. Representative species cultivated in Japan include the following: T. cyanea Lind.ex K.Koch (illustration) grows in Ecuador at altitudes of 600 to 1000 meters.

パイナップル科の常緑多年草で，アメリカ南部～中南米の亜熱帯～熱帯地域に400種以上が分布する。生育地は高温多湿な地域だけでなく，低温になる山岳地帯や乾燥地帯にも生育し，地上生のものから着生のものまで，その生活型もさまざまである。最近多くの種類が日本に導入されており，壁面を飾るなど，緑のインテリアとして有望だが，まだあまり普及していない。日本で栽培される代表的種には次のようなものがある。ハナアナナスT.cyanea Lind.ex K.Koch（イラスト）はエクアドルの標高600～1000m地域に生育している。
