A Turk-Mongol Islamic dynasty in Central Asia and Iran. 1370-1507. After the death of its founder Timur in 1405, it reached its zenith under the rule of his sons Shah Rukh and Abu Said. Its capital was Samarkand. After Abu Said's death, the kingdom split into Samarkand and Herat, and was destroyed in the early 16th century.
