Compression wave

A type of longitudinal wave. When pressure is applied to a part of an object such as an elastic body or a fluid, a local density change occurs, which becomes a wave that travels through the object. It is named after the alternating sparse and dense areas. Sound waves and earthquake P waves are examples of this, and are also called compression waves. 縦波の1種。弾性体や流体などの物体の一部に圧力が加わって局所的な密度変化が生じ，これが物体内を伝わる波となる。疎なところと密なところが交互にできるためにこの名がある。音波や地震のP波はこの例で，圧縮波ともいう。 (→地震波 )
