Astyages (English spelling)

Japanese: アステュアゲス(英語表記)Astyagēs
Astyages (English spelling)
Last king of ancient Media (reigned c. 585-c. 550 BC). Also written as Astyages. He was captured in battle (550 BC) by Cyrus II, king of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia, and the Median kingdom was destroyed. According to the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, Cyrus II was the son of Astyages' daughter, but this is unclear. Babylonian inscriptions state that the battle took place in 553 BC, and that he was captured because his army had defected to the Middle Ages.
