Kashikodokoro - Kashikodokoro

It is also read as "Kensho." It is the place in the Imperial Palace where the sacred mirror that is said to represent the spirit of Amaterasu Omikami is enshrined. It was also called the Naishidokoro. As the sacred mirror (Yata no Kagami), one of the Three Sacred Treasures, was moved with the construction of Ise Shrine, it was decided to enshrine a different sacred mirror in the Imperial Palace. It was originally enshrined in the place where the emperor lived, but a separate place was created to avoid always having it together. This is the Kashikodokoro, which was located in the Unmeiden Hall of the Heian Palace Imperial Palace, and was moved to the Shunkoden Hall after the Kamakura period. When Emperor Meiji moved the capital to Tokyo in 1869 (Meiji 2), it was constructed in the Yamazato Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and in 1889 after a fire at the Imperial Palace, it was newly constructed within Fukiage Gyoen as one of the three imperial palace shrines, along with the Imperial Mausoleum and the Shinto Shrine, where it remains to this day.

「けんしょ」とも読む。皇居で天照大神(あまてらすおおみかみ)の御霊代(みたましろ)とする神鏡を祀(まつ)ってある所。内侍所(ないしどころ)ともよばれた。三種の神器の一つである神鏡（八咫鏡(やたのかがみ)）が、伊勢(いせ)神宮の建立とともに移されたため、宮中では別の神鏡を祀ることにした。当初天皇の起居する所に祀られたが、つねにいっしょであることを避けて別に場所を設けた。これが賢所で、平安宮内裏(だいり)では温明殿(うんめいでん)にあり、鎌倉時代以後は春興殿(しゅんこうでん)に移った。1869年（明治2）明治天皇の東京遷都に伴って、皇居内の山里御庭に造営され、皇居火災後の89年皇霊(こうれい)殿、神殿とともに宮中三殿として吹上御苑(ふきあげぎょえん)内に新造され、現在に至っている。
