This is one of the scenic spots in Sanriku Fukko National Park (formerly Rikuchu Kaigan National Park) in northeastern Iwate Prefecture. For about eight kilometers from Kurosaki in Fudai Village, Shimohei County to Bentenzaki in Tanohata Village, there are sea cliffs, caves, and huge rocks reaching up to 200 meters, and the area is known as the "Alps of the Sea." On top of the cliffs, you can see red pine forests as well as colonies of white rhododendrons. Pleasure boats also operate from Shimanokoshi Port, allowing you to explore some of Japan's best open sea scenery.
