Ichikawa Shocho
Kabuki actor. Matsutsuta was the pen name of the first Ichikawa Sadanji, and was also used by the second Sadanji for a time. The first stage name was the sister of the second Sadanji, and there were three generations, but Matsutsuta II's success brought him to prominence. His stage name was Wakamatsuya. (1) Second (1886-1940, Meiji 19-Showa 15) His real name was Suzuki Tetsuya. Born in Tokyo. He was the eldest son of the Shinjuku brothel Shinbanro (his father's name unknown). In 1896 he became a disciple of the first Ichikawa Sadanji, made his debut under the stage name Ichikawa Sakimatsu, and after working as a performer at Uwajaku, he took on the stage name Matsutsuta in 1912, and married the younger sister of the second Sadanji (the first Matsutsuta) the following year. He played the leading female role in the Sadanji troupe, even performing in translated plays, bringing a new style to Sadanji.
