Aigo (English spelling)

Japanese: アイゴー（英語表記）aigo

A Korean interjection. It is used to express an instantaneous emotion. Its range of expression is extremely wide, including sadness, happiness, anger, dismay, when meeting someone for the first time in a long time, and when exertion is required. By changing the sound and form, such as aig, oiku, aegu, and the female form aigumoni, it is possible to subtly and richly express the emotion, nuance and degree of admiration, and the difference between male and female speech. Incidentally, the noun 'aigo', which refers to crying at a funeral, is a completely different word, and the Korean pronunciation of 'aigo' is 'aeho'.

朝鮮語の感動詞。感情を瞬間的に表現するときに用いられる。悲しいとき，うれしいとき，腹立たしいとき，あきれたとき，人に久しぶりにあったとき，力のいるとき等，その表現範囲はきわめてひろい。アイグ，オイク，エーグ，女ことばとしてアイグモニのように，音と形を変えながら，そのときどきの感動，感嘆のニュアンスや程度，男女語のちがいなどを，微妙かつ豊かに表現しわけることができる。なお，葬式で泣きさけぶことを指す名詞の〈哀号〉は，まったく別種の言葉であり，〈哀号〉の朝鮮音はエーホæhoである。
