Kinko - Kinko

Japanese:
Kinko - Kinko

A marine animal belonging to the phylum Echinodermata, class Holothuria, family Ctenophoridae. Found off the coasts of Tohoku and Hokkaido, this sea cucumber has a stocky, thick body with no clear distinction between its dorsal and ventral sides. It is also called Fujiko. It grows to nearly 20 centimeters in length. Its body color varies, with most being gray-brown, but there are also dark brown, deep purple, and yellow-white varieties. It has 10 tentacles around its mouth that branch out like a net. It has long been known to come from Mount Kinka in Miyagi Prefecture, a famous gold dust producing area, and because its gonads are a beautiful golden color, legends have arisen that it eats gold dust or was born from the essence of gold, hence the name Kinko.
