Carl (Karol) Tausig
1841‐71
Polish pianist. He was taught by his father, who was also a pianist, but from the age of 14 he studied under F. Liszt in Weimar. In 1858 he made his debut in Berlin under the baton of H. von Bülow. He continued to perform mainly in Germany, and was highly praised for his excellent interpretations and advanced performance techniques. Although he died at the early age of 29, he was one of Liszt's virtuosos and was called "the pianist with fingers of steel." As a composer, he left behind many piano pieces and etudes, as well as numerous arrangements.
