1930年代の生活綴方運動を担った教員たちの実践発表，論争の主舞台となった教師向け全国雑誌。子ども向け雑誌《綴方読本》をもつ。1929年10月，編集人志垣寛，文園社刊で始まったが，翌30年10月，編集人小砂丘（ささおか）忠義，郷土社刊となる。この号に，〈綴方教育を中心〉として教育方法の確立をめざす旨を説く同誌第2次同人の宣言文が発表され，生活綴方の雑誌としての方向が決まった。初期は，雑誌《赤い鳥》やプロレタリア教育の教員たちとの論争，児童文集の紹介，ルポ，官製ジャーナリズムの批判などを内容にしていたが，35年ころから，北方教育社，伯西教育社など各地に生まれた綴方教師の集団の実践記録を中心に編集が行われるようになった。
