Mr. Tsutsui - Tsutsuiuji

Japanese:
Mr. Tsutsui - Tsutsuiuji

A powerful clan in the Yamato Province of the Middle Ages. He lived in Tsutsui-sho (Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture) as a bankyo (a Buddhist monk-soldier) at Kofuku-ji Temple, and rose to prominence by joining the Ichijo-in side during the Nanboku-cho Civil War. He was the leader of the Inuiwaki clan, one of the six Yamato samurai clans that performed the Kasuga Wakamiya Festival. In the early Muromachi period, he was selected as the head of the kanpu shuto (a Buddhist monk) equivalent to a shugodai (deputy governor), but due to his conflict with the Ochi clan, his sphere of influence was limited to northern Yamato. After the Onin War, the position of head carpenter was taken by the Furuichi clan, who were allied with the Ochi clan, for a time, but was restored in the early 16th century, and during the time of Junsho in the 1540s, they suppressed the Ochi clan and controlled almost the entire province. After Junsho's death, his son Junkei was overwhelmed by Matsunaga Hisahide, but regained power under the Oda government, and in 1576 (Tensho 4) he was entrusted with the entire Yamato province, and in 1578 he built a castle in Koriyama. His position was also recognized under the Toyotomi government, and after Junkei's death in 1584, his adopted son Sadatsugu took over, but he was transferred to Ueno in Iga, and in 1608 (Keicho 13) his title was abolished due to internal conflict within the family.
