A powerful clan in the medieval Noto Province whose main territory was the area around Tsuchida Manor in Hakui County, Noto Province (present-day southern area of Shika Town, Hakui County, Ishikawa Prefecture). During the Jisho-Juei Civil War, the Tsuchida clan is recorded to have been among the rebel forces from the Hokuriku region who fought in Hiuchidani, Echizen Province, against the Taira clan's punitive forces in late April 1183 (Juei 2). Thereafter, no further activity from the Tsuchida clan is known during the Kamakura period, but in 1340 (Kokoku 1, Rekio 3) during the Nanboku-cho Civil War, Tsuchida Juroemon-no-jo was seen as a military magistrate for Yoshimi Yoritaka, the Noto Guardian, and Tsuchida Azechibo, a member of the same clan, also served the Yoshimi army, so it seems that the Tsuchida clan was a powerful vassal of the Yoshimi clan at the time.
