A hero of Greek mythology. Son of Apollo and Epikaste, breastfed by Demeter, he became a skilled architect, married Epikaste, and built many famous buildings with Agamedes, who became his stepfather. He is said to have been swallowed up by the earth at Lebadeia in Boeotia, where he had a famous underground oracle and was worshipped there.
