Located in Shinmei-cho, Tsushima City, Aichi Prefecture. Takehayasu Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Onamuchi-no-Mikoto are enshrined here. Formerly known as Tsushima Gozu Tenno-sha, the shrine was founded during the reign of Emperor Kinmei, though its date of foundation is unknown. During the Warring States period, Oda Nobunaga revered the shrine as his tutelary deity, and in 1598 (Keicho 3), Toyotomi Hideyoshi donated land to the shrine and restored the shrine building. The current tower gate was built in 1591 (Tensho 19), and the main hall in 1605 (Keicho 10), both of which are important cultural properties of the country. Other important cultural properties include a sword made by Ohara Mamoru and a sword made by Osafune Nagamitsu. Formerly a small national shrine. The annual festival is held on June 15th. The Tsushima River Festival (Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival) is a Shinto ritual centered around two boat festivals: the Yoi Matsuri (Lantern Festival) held on the fourth Saturday night of July, and the Morning Festival (Danjiri Festival) the following day. At the Kosha Grand Festival, members of our shrine from around the country take turns performing Daidai Kagura. [Yoshitaro Hakusan] According to the shrine's tradition, this ancient shrine was founded in 540 (the 1st year of Emperor Kinmei's reign). It is also called Tsushima Gozu Tennosha. During the Sengoku period, it was revered by Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and others. It is the head shrine of the approximately 3,000 Tsushima Shrines and Tennosha Shrines throughout Japan. It is also called the Paper Lantern Festival, and a boat decorated with 365 paper lanterns in a hemispherical shape crosses the Tenno River while playing Tsushima music, and travels to the shrine. Six Sharaku boats, with floats set up on the boats and Noh dolls on board, head to the shrine. Ten people carrying white Nunohoko floats board the Ichie-guruma (left in the photo) at the front of the boat, and one by one they jump into the river, land in front of the shrine, and run to Tsushima Shrine to offer the Nunohoko floats.
