Base level of erosion

...If no new relief is produced by internal processes, the land will eventually be eroded down to a flat surface (called a peneplain) almost at sea level. Therefore, the sea level is generally called the "base level of erosion," and erosion is said to stop at this point. Strictly speaking, wave erosion (wave erosion) extends 20 to 60 meters below sea level, so if the ground remains stationary, the land will be lowered to the surf base level below sea level.
