〘 noun 〙 A woody plant that is short and has an underdeveloped trunk. It is similar to azaleas and nandinas, and has trunks and branches that are difficult to distinguish, and is within two to three meters. It is now called a shrub. ⇔ Tall tree. ※Shogaku Dokushohon (1873)〈Yoshino Sakakibara〉3 "Because wild grasses and shrubs grow thick"
