Chin Shido

A poet from the Song Dynasty in China. His pen name was Lichang and also Wuji. His pen name was Hou Shan Jushi. He was from Pengcheng (Jiangsu Province). He studied in poverty from a young age, and through his poetry he became acquainted with Zeng Gong and Su Shi, who recommended him to become an official, but he was unfortunate and ended up as a secretary-general. Among Su Shi's disciples, he and Huang Tingjian are known as "Huang Chen." The two are considered to be the heads of the Jiangxi school of poetry, and both admired Du Fu, who they tried to emulate, bringing about a turning point in Song poetry. He was a poet who poured all his energy into writing poetry despite his difficulties, saying, "I will devote all my energy to poetry in this life." As sung in the poem by Huang Tingjian, "Chen Wuji closes the door and searches for a verse," he was a poet who studied hard. He wrote "Goshan Poetry Story" and "Goshan Collection," which are 20 volumes in length.

中国、宋(そう)代の詩人。字(あざな)は履常(りじょう)、また無己(むき)。号は後山居士(こうざんこじ)。彭城(ほうじょう)（江蘇(こうそ)省）の人。若いときから貧窮のなかで学び、詩によって曽鞏(そうきょう)、蘇軾(そしょく)らの知遇を得、その推薦で官途についたが、不遇で秘書省正字の官に終わった。蘇軾の門人では黄庭堅(こうていけん)とあわせて「黄陳」と並称される。2人は江西詩派の宗とされ、ともに杜甫(とほ)を崇拝し、これを祖述しようとして宋詩に転機を生んだ。彼は「此(こ)の生の精力は詩に尽く」と、不遇のなかで作詩に全エネルギーを注ぎ、黄庭堅の詩に「門を閉じて句を覓(もと)む陳無己」と歌われているように、苦吟型の詩人であった。著に『後山詩話』と『後山集』20巻がある。
