Philippine Trench

A trench located off the eastern coast of the southern Philippine Islands. It is about 60 kilometers wide and 1,400 kilometers long. It is a large trench that includes two deepest points: the Emden Deep, at 10,057 meters, and the Cape Johnson Deep, at 10,497 meters. It is thought to have been formed when the Philippine Plate subducted under the Southeast Asian Plate.

フィリピン諸島南部の東側沖合いにある海溝。幅は約60キロメートル、長さ約1400キロメートル。最深点1万0057メートルのエムデン海淵(かいえん)と、最深点1万0497メートルのケープ・ジョンソン海淵の二つを含む大海溝である。フィリピンプレートが東南アジアプレートの下に潜り込むときにできたと考えられる。
