More than 400 species of Passiflora (English name: passionflower) are known, mainly in South America, and the seed coat that surrounds the seed is jelly-like, and many of them have a moderately sour-sweet taste and fragrance. In addition to the famous Passiflora edulis (illustration), there are several other species cultivated for their fruit, and many wild species are also edible.
