Founder of the Mongol Empire. Reigned 1206-27. First Emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. His name was Temüjin (Temujin), and he was from the prestigious Mongol clan, the Qat. He was born in the upper reaches of the Onon River (Dadar-Sum, northeastern Mongolia). There are various theories about his birth year, including 1162, 1154, and 1155. His father, Yesügei, was active in the battles against the Tatars, who were trying to weaken the Mongolian powers with the support of the Jin Dynasty, and was a leading candidate to become the next tribal chief after the death of the third tribal chief, Kuttra.

モンゴル帝国の建設者。在位1206‐27年。元の太祖。名はテムジンTemüjin(鉄木真)，モンゴル部の名門氏族キャト氏の出身。オノン川上流の地(モンゴル国北東部ダダル･ソム)に生まれた。生年については，諸説ある。1162年説，1154年説，1155年説などである。父イエスゲイYesügeiは，金朝の支援を受けてモンゴル部の弱体化を図るタタール部との戦闘に活躍し，第3代部族長クトトラの没後には次の部族長の有力候補者になっていた。
