Chen Qimei - Chinkibi

A politician at the beginning of the Republic at the end of the Qing Dynasty. His courtesy name was Yingshi. He was from Wuxing County, Zhejiang Province. He was the uncle of Chen Guofu and Chen Lip. He worked at a raw silk wholesaler in Shanghai, but was influenced by revolutionary ideas and went to study in Japan in 1906 (Meiji 39). He joined the China Mengonghui, and after returning to China in 1908, he published the China Official Newspaper and the People's Voice Congbao in Shanghai, propagating the revolution. In 1911, he organized the Central General Assembly of the Mengonghui with Song Jiaoren and others, and promoted the revolutionary movement in the Yangtze River basin. In response to the Wuchang Uprising in October of the same year, he played an active role in the Shanghai Uprising in November. After the uprising was successful, he was made governor of Shanghai with the support of Shanghai's nobles and merchants, but was dismissed by Yuan Shikai. In 1913, he participated in the Second Revolution and fled to Japan. He joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party and returned to China to engage in the anti-Yuan movement, but was assassinated by Yuan Shikai in Shanghai in May 1916.

清(しん)末民国初めの政治家。字(あざな)は英士。浙江(せっこう)省呉興県の人。陳果夫(ちんかふ)、陳立夫(りっぷ)の伯父。上海(シャンハイ)の生糸問屋に働いたが、革命思想の影響を受け、1906年（明治39）日本に留学。中国同盟会に加入し、1908年帰国後、上海で『中国公報』『民声叢報(みんせいそうほう)』を発刊し、革命を宣伝した。1911年宋教仁(そうきょうじん)らと同盟会中部総会を組織し、揚子江(ようすこう)流域の革命運動を推進。同年10月武昌蜂起(ぶしょうほうき)に呼応して、11月上海蜂起に活躍。蜂起成功後、上海紳商の支持を得て上海都督となったが、袁世凱(えんせいがい)により解職された。1913年第二革命に参加し、日本に亡命。中華革命党に加入し、帰国して討袁運動に従事したが、1916年5月袁世凱により上海で暗殺された。
