1880‐1971 A Chinese historian. His pen name is Yuan'an. He was born in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province. He made extensive use of his knowledge of cataloguing, and produced meticulous research achievements in the fields of Yuan history, Western Region history, and religious history. He also had a deep knowledge of the history of Western medicine, and was interested in politics. In academic administration, he served as president of the Catholic Fu Jen University, and after the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as president of Beijing Normal University and director of the Institute of History, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His works include "Considerations on the Hua-Hu Transformation of the People in the Western Regions in the Yuan Dynasty," "Considerations on New Taoist Teaching in Hebei at the Beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty," "Ju Lie of Historical Characters," and "Commentary on the Table of Contents of the Mirror of Hu."
