[Christ and Jesus] Generally, Christ is considered to be another name for Jesus. In fact, even in the New Testament, in some cases, such as in Paul's letters, Christ and Jesus are not distinguished from each other, and ancient Roman historians (such as Tacitus and Suetonius) often thought of Christ as a proper noun. However, "Christ" was originally a common noun, meaning "the anointed one." Specifically, it meant the person who was anointed by the prophets of Israel in the Old Testament and enthroned, that is, "king." Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
