Genzaburou Yoshino

Japanese:
Genzaburou Yoshino

Journalist. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University in 1925 (Taisho 14). He lectured at Meiji University, but was recommended by Yamamoto Yuzo to become editor-in-chief of Shinchosha's "Nihon Shokokumin Bunko." He later joined Iwanami Shoten (1937). His work "Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka" (How Do You Live?), which he wrote that year, was highly praised. After Japan was defeated in the war, in 1946 (Showa 21), he launched the general magazine "Sekai" and became its first editor-in-chief, continuing to adopt a progressive editorial policy. Japan was forced to choose between a separate peace or a complete peace, and "Sekai" organized the Peace Issues Discussion Group, centered around Abe Yoshishige and Ouchi Hyoe, and became a platform for publishing arguments for a complete peace. In 1965, he resigned as editor-in-chief and became an editorial advisor for Iwanami Shoten.
