The rock art (painted and engraved) and bark paintings of the Australian Aboriginal people clearly reflect their highly developed mythology and beliefs. The themes of the rock art are secular but many are religious, such as the rain god Wondjina, who has no mouth, radial rings around his head and a striped body. Rock art is distributed widely throughout Australia, but in the north a naturalistic style with depictions of Wondjina and other creatures dominates, while in the south geometric line drawings with circles, spirals and wavy lines are more prevalent.
