...The native species in Japan belong to this lineage. G. arboreum L. is also known as Kidachi-wata (tree cotton) (illustration), and is said to grow to 4-6m in its native India. Asiatic cotton has small capsules and short fluff of 9-23mm, but it is strong and is used as filling for futons and for spinning thick thread of 30 or less.
