A Fudai Daimyo family in the Edo period. The family is descended from the Shibukawa clan, whose ancestor was Yoshiaki, the second son of Ashikaga Yasuuji, but there are gaps in the genealogy, making this fact doubtful. Katsushige, the son of Yoshishige, who served the Matsudaira clan of Fukozu, was summoned by Ieyasu and gradually became highly valued, becoming Kyoto Shoshidai in 1601 (Keicho 6). His son Shigemune also succeeded his father and served in that position until 1654 (Shoo 3). Shigemune was given Sekiyado Castle in Shimousa (Chiba Prefecture). After that, the fief changed and he was transferred to Bitchu Matsuyama (Takahashi Domain) with 50,000 koku. Katsushige, who emerged during the Meiji Restoration, served as a senior councilor and fought in the Boshin War all the way to Hakodate. Katsushige's second son, Shigemasa, served as an envoy during the Shimabara Rebellion (1637-38) and was killed in battle. This family also became a daimyo (Mikawa Shigehara Domain). In addition to this, there are other daimyo families (Annaka Domain) and hatamoto families within the family.
