Feather fingergrass

Japanese: オヒゲシバ（英語表記）feather fingergrass

A naturalized grass (illustration) native to tropical America. Currently it has spread to warm regions around the world, and is a weed on roadsides, in sunny grasslands, and in coastal areas. It is an annual plant that grows in clumps. The stems are slightly spreading at the base, bend at the nodes, and branch up, reaching a height of about 40 cm. The leaves are long and linear, reaching a length of 20 cm and a width of about 5 mm, and the leaf sheath at the top of the stem is swollen. In autumn, it produces an inflorescence about 7 cm long, pale green with a slight purple tinge, consisting of 6 to 10 branches in a bundle, with spikelets densely growing on each branch.

熱帯アメリカ原産のイネ科の帰化植物（イラスト）。現在では全世界の暖地に広がり，道端や日当りのよい草地，近海地等の雑草となっている。一年草で株を作る。茎は根もとがややはって，節で折れ曲がり，枝分れしながら立ち上がり，高さは40cm前後である。葉は長い線形で，長さ20cmに達し，幅は5mm前後，茎の最上位の葉鞘（ようしよう）はふくらむ。秋に長さ7cmほどの花序を出し，淡緑色に多少紫色を帯び，6～10個の枝を束生して，各枝に小穂を密生する。
