Chohan - Chohan

Japanese:
Chohan - Chohan

A combination game using two dice. Since the Edo period, this "Dinghan" has been synonymous with gambling. There are small-scale games commonly known as "tekkaba" and big gambling games. The game is played on the basis of whether the total of the numbers on the two dice is "Ding" (even number) or "Han" (odd number). There is also something called a "bongoza", which is a single-person "bondai" (a bondai) made of a cotton-filled futon with four corners riveted to keep it from moving, on which a piece of bonsai made of gold leaf or cotton flannel, usually about two shaku (about 60 centimeters) wide and two ken (about 3.6 meters) long, is placed. Two people, the "Tsubofuri" and "Nakabon", sit facing each other in the center of the tray, and the customers who place their bets also have designated seats; the person betting on the odds sits on the Nakabon side, and the person betting on the half sits opposite the Tsubofuri. There is no bookmaker, so if one side is short or over betting, the Nakabon will make efforts to make the amounts even. When everything is ready, the Nakabon calls out "Tsubofuri" in an energetic voice. The Tsubofuri places two dice in the jar, turns them face down, checks the bets, and then the Nakabon calls "Game" and opens the jar, deciding the winner.
