Korean rice production increase plan

The Government-General of Korea began a land and agricultural improvement project in 1920 with the aim of increasing rice production in Korea to solve Japan's food problems, which were revealed by the rice riots of 1918. The initial plan was to improve cultivation and improve 800,000 hectares of land over a 30-year period, with a goal of investing just under 240 million yen in the first 15 years to improve land on about 430,000 hectares and increase rice production by about 9 million koku. The plan began to fail as soon as one or two years after it was launched, so it was revised and restarted in 1926 as the Rice Production Increase and Renewal Plan.

1918年の米騒動に示された日本の食糧問題の解決のため朝鮮の米穀生産力引上げを図って，朝鮮総督府が1920年から始めた土地･農事改良事業。当初の計画は，30ヵ年で耕種改善と80万町歩の土地改良を行うこととし，まず最初の15ヵ年で2億4000万円弱を投じて約43万町歩の土地改良を行い，約900万石の産米増収を図ったものである。着手の1～2年後に早くも計画が破綻しはじめたので，26年に産米増殖更新計画として改訂され再出発した。
