…An Edo period ukiyo-zoshi author. His real name was Murase Gonnojo, and he was commonly known as Shozaemon. He was from Kyoto. He was the owner of a Daibutsu-mochi shop that had been in business since the beginning of the Edo period. He wrote a Joruri piece around 1696, but in 1699 he published Actor's Review: Actor's Mouth Shamisen, and in 1701 he published Ukiyo-zoshi: Keisei-iro Shamisen, both from Hachimonjiya in Kyoto, and became active as a writer of hyōban-ki and ukiyo-zoshi. The former broke away from the previous reputation that was centered on appearance and clearly demonstrated its character as an art critique, and it became a book that set the format for hyōban-ki in terms of format, ranking, and criticism methods that would continue until the end of the Edo period and the Meiji period. …

…江戸時代の浮世草子作者。本名村瀬権之丞，通称庄左衛門。京都の人。江戸時代初めより続く大仏餅屋の主人。1696年ころに浄瑠璃の作があるが，99年役者評判記《役者口三味線》を，1701年には浮世草子《けいせい色三味線》を京都の八文字屋から出してより，評判記･浮世草子の作者として活躍。前者は以前の容色本位の評判を脱して芸評書としての性格をはっきりうち出し，体裁･位付け･批評法など以後幕末･明治に至る評判記の型を定める書となった。…
