Insulinoma

Also known as insulinoma. A tumor that develops in the B cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Most are single tumors, and most are benign, but in rare cases they can be malignant. The tumor secretes excess insulin, causing Whipple's triad: 1. hypoglycemic attacks during fasting or exercise, 2. blood glucose levels below 50 mg/dl during attacks, and 3. rapid recovery after administration of glucose. Treatment involves surgical removal of the tumor.

インスリノーマとも。膵臓(すいぞう)のランゲルハンス島B細胞にできる腫瘍。単発が多く，大部分は良性だが，まれに悪性の場合もある。腫瘍によってインシュリンが過剰に分泌され，1.空腹時や運動時の低血糖様発作，2.発作時の血糖値50mg/dl以下，3.ブドウ糖投与によって速やかに回復，のウィップルの３主徴が起こる。治療としては，外科的な腫瘍の摘除が行われる。
