An old town in the western part of the Osumi Peninsula facing Kagoshima Bay in Kimotsuki District, Kagoshima Prefecture. In the Middle Ages, it was the territory of the powerful Nejime clan. Livestock farming, greenhouse horticulture, fruit and tobacco cultivation are thriving.
