Zhang Shijie - Chou Seiketsu

A military commander in the final days of the Southern Song Dynasty in China. He was from Fan Yang (Tuo County, Hebei Province). In his youth, he served under Zhang Rou, who had surrendered to the Mongols, but was found guilty and fled to Song, where he became an officer under the Southern Song general Lü Wende. He fought off the invading Yuan army and achieved military success. In 1275, he rescued Lin'an Prefecture (Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province) from an attack by the Yuan army, and was promoted to military commander of the Baokang Army for his efforts. In 1276, Lin'an Prefecture fell to the Yuan army, and when Emperor Gongzong surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty, Shijie fled to Fujian by sea, accompanying Gongzong's brother, King Yi. However, when King Yi died of an illness in 78, he again supported his younger brother King Wei in fighting the Yuan army at Gaishan (Xinhui County, Guangdong Province). The following year, they were attacked by Yuan general Zhang Hongfan, and King Wei drowned. Meanwhile, Shijie tried to make a comeback by escaping to the sea, but was drowned in a typhoon.

中国、南宋(なんそう)末期の武将。范陽(はんよう)（河北省たく県）の人。若いころは蒙古(もうこ)に投降した張柔(ちょうじゅう)の部下であったが、罪を得て宋に逃れ、南宋の将軍呂文徳(りょぶんとく)の将校となった。侵入してきた元軍を迎え討って軍功をあげた。1275年には元軍の攻撃にさらされた臨安(りんあん)府（浙江(せっこう)省杭州市）を救い、その功で保康軍節度使に昇進した。76年に元軍のために臨安府が陥落し、恭宗が元に下ると、世傑は恭宗の兄、益王を奉じて海路を福建に逃れた。しかし益王が78年に病死するに及んで、ふたたび弟の衛王を奉じて元軍を厓山(がいざん)（広東(カントン)省新会県）で迎え討とうとした。翌年、元の将軍張弘範に攻撃され、衛王は入水し、一方、世傑は海上に逃れて再起を図ろうとしたが、台風にあって溺死(できし)した。
