This was a department that engaged in sewing in the ancient imperial court. There were the Ayanokinuibe, Asuka Kinu-bu, and Ise Kinu-bu, and many of them were immigrants from Baekje and Wu around the 5th century. There were also ancient Japanese clothing sewing departments. Under the Ritsuryo system (→ Ritsuryo system), they belonged to the Nuibe-tsukasa under the Ministry of Finance and the Nuido-ryo under the Ministry of Central Affairs. 古代宮廷の裁縫に従事した部。漢衣縫部(あやのきぬぬいべ),飛鳥衣縫部,伊勢衣縫部などがあり,その多くは,5世紀前後に百済や呉から渡来した渡来人。日本古来の衣縫部も存在した。令制(→律令制)では,大蔵省管轄下の縫部司と,中務省管轄下の縫殿寮に所属する。
