〘Noun〙 (Named after the pale blue color of reeds when they first sprout) The name of a horse's coat color. A horse that develops white hair after birth on the original coat color of chestnut, blue, or bay. Black bay, red bay, and other horses. ※Man'yoshu (late 8th century) 13.3327 "They say they draw water and raise it, but something is wrong with the blue horses, who are making loud noises." ※Makura (end 10th century) 50 "The horses are pale blue."
