A village in Chosei County in southern Chiba Prefecture. Population 13,133 (1995). It is located in the southern part of the Kujukuri Coast. The main industry is agriculture, with rice, vegetable and dairy farming taking place. The lowlands between the sand dunes once suffered from poor drainage and water shortages, but the opening of the Ryoso Irrigation Canal after World War II eliminated the water shortage. Potted plants such as podocarps are grown here, and there is a branch of the Prefectural Original Seed Farm's flower and plant nursery. The area around Yatsumi Station on the Sotobo Line is becoming a residential area, and the number of commuters to Mobara City and Chiba City is increasing.
