[Born] Kangxi 30 (1691) [Died] 10th year of Qianlong (1745) Chinese politician and calligrapher of the Qing dynasty. Born in Lou County (Jiangsu). His pen name was Detian. His pen name was Jingnan. His posthumous name was Wenmin. He became a Jinshi in 1709 (48th year of the Kangxi era). He became a lecturer at the beginning of the Yongzheng era and advised the emperor to have the Sacred Teachings widely recited by schoolchildren. In 11th year of the Yongzheng era (33rd year of the Yongzheng era), he became the Left Censor, and then the Minister of Justice. At that time, the Miaomin Rebellion occurred in Yunnan and Guizhou, and in 13th year of the same year, he went to Guizhou as the Minister of Miaojiang, but he was ultimately unsuccessful and was convicted. In 5th year of the Qianlong era (40th year of the Qianlong era), he became the Assistant Minister of Justice. He was knowledgeable in law and excelled in calligraphy. He studied Dong Qichang and Mi Fu, and is known as the leader of the calligraphy school in the early Qing dynasty. He wrote the "Postscript to the Calligraphy and Paintings of Tianpingzhai."
