The first King of England of the House of York (reigned 1461-1483). In 1461, during the Wars of the Roses, he dethroned Henry VI of the House of Lancaster and ascended to the throne. In 1470, a split occurred within the Yorkists, and he fled to the Netherlands, but was restored the following year.
