Mr. Kano

Japanese: 狩野氏 - かのううじ

There are several families, but the most famous are medieval samurai families in Izu Province. (1) They were local government officials who lived in Kano-sho, Izu Province. They were descendants of Otomaro, the fourth son of Takechimaro, a member of the Southern branch of the Fujiwara clan, and were of the same clan as the Ito, Kudo, and Kawazu families. Ito Ietsugu's fourth son, Shigemitsu, was called Kudo-no-suke, and his son, Muneshige, was called Kano-no-suke. The Sonpi Bunmyaku states that they were descendants of Muneshige's younger brother, Yukimitsu, and the Keizu Soran states that Yukimitsu's younger brother, Chikamitsu, also called himself Kano. Shigemitsu is said to have committed suicide in the mountains of Izu in 1180 (Jisho 4) when Minamoto no Yoritomo raised an army. In the Azuma Kagami, in addition to Chikamitsu, the names of Nobuyasu, Muneshige, Yukimitsu, Mitsuhiro, Tamehiro, Kageshige, and others appear.

数流あるが，とくに著名なのは伊豆国の中世武家。(1)伊豆国狩野庄に住んだ在庁官人。藤原氏南家流武智麻呂の四男乙麿の子孫で，伊東氏，工藤氏，河津氏と同族。伊東家次の四男茂光が工藤介，その子の宗茂が狩野介を称した。《尊卑分脈》では宗茂の弟行光の子孫，《系図綜覧》では行光の弟の親光もまた狩野を称したとある。茂光は1180年(治承4)の源頼朝の挙兵に従って伊豆山中で自殺したという。《吾妻鏡》には，親光のほか，宣安，宗茂，行光，光広，為広，景茂などの名が見える。
