The Tale of Isoho

Japanese: 伊曾保物語 - いそほものがたり
The Tale of Isoho
A kana zoshi translation of Aesop's Fables. The Christian version of Aesop's Fables (the Old Bunroku Translation of the Tale of Isoho), published by the Amakusa Collegio in 1593, was the first translation of Western literature, and the original is in the possession of the British Museum. It is a well-written translation written in Roman characters in colloquial Japanese, and is an important resource for Japanese linguistics. There are also various other translations in literary Japanese, including an old movable type version from around the Keicho and Genna periods, and a fully-printed version published in 1659.
