Tawhid (English spelling)

Japanese: タウヒード（英語表記）tawḥīd

A term meaning "the oneness of God" in Arabic. It is the second form of the verb waḥada, meaning "to be one," and is the gerund of waḥḥada, meaning "to make one" or "to recognize as one." It is a major fundamental doctrine in Islam. That is why Islamic theology is sometimes called the "study of tawhid." However, even though it is simply called tawhid, the specific content varies depending on the person, school, and sect. For example, for the average Muslim, it means confessing that "there is no god but Allah" and not actually worshiping other gods.
